Scorer(s): Paul DeKievit, David Pennisi

The Team:

Dazey, Bruiser, Noddy, Otter, Todo, Symbol, Clam, Biff, Belly, Wilson, Muffy, Davo, Crouch, PdK

Big thanks to Mutton for reffing. Never fun, but the violence was kept minimal. Dazey Dave took the first shift in goals and was deprived of a clean sheet quite quickly. Otter shielding a ball towards him, then back-passing with the strength of an ant that was the runt of its litter. In case the pressing striker from Annerley was under any doubt about it being a mistake by the aquatic dam builder, Otter put him straight by letting out a very audible, oh $hit. Striker scoots in and finishes. 0-1 down. The rest of the half was challenging and these guys were playing some decent football. Noddy and Otter organised the defence well, but breakouts weren’t common. Some nice runs by Todo down the left and the odd shot from distance/angle was all we had.

Second half we put our game together a bit more. Long periods of good ball work and running. They didn’t play too well without it and we stuck at the game. PdK was making a real pest of himself up front, which was good because Wilson was being worn like a glove by his defender. Sadly the ref failed to award many free kicks for this. Perhaps he knew something. First goal came late on when Wilson found some space and after a good run into the box, slides it sideways to PdK. Driven home with a nice low finish to the left. Biff had decided to rack up some stats by shooting from long range and Noddy tosstled with the opposing strikers testicles (perhaps in lieu of WKG’s which we are told were too swollen to play). Otter was in goals after another blown hammy, but doing well. Belly was filling in at stopper and trying still to make the occasional run to the other end. Crouch fought hard for a midfield header, and was flattened, the ref, waves play on, wisely, and the ball is lobbed into the box. Keeper calls, but PdK decides not to believe that and jumps for a free header (back to goal). Ball loops over the keeper, bounces up into the crossbar and down towards an on-rushing Dazey Dave. What happened next is under a cloud. Some say it was upper thigh that knocked the ball home, but I think all of us out there like to think there may have been at least a glancing blow from the flute before the ball was goal bound again. Either way it went in and we won. Symbol Clammy and Muffy all worked hard to win the midfield battle in the second half and that was crucial to our second come from behind (easy) win in two weeks.

Special mentions to Davo, who used age and wisdom of youth and fitness to win the battle on his wing. And Belly who slotted a fairly long range nutty (5 metres), called it first and had the pass hit Wilson’s feet. Who needs a goals tally?

So we finished a comfortable 5th. 4 points adrift, but then had we just beat the Gap in what we knew was a crunch match a few weeks back, we’d be in the final. Perhaps not deservingly though, we did give Olympic their first point of the season after all. Until next year.

Scorer(s): Paul De Kievit, David Waugh

The Team:

Clam (gk), Todo, Noddy, PdK, Brusier, Belly, Oscar, Muffy, Dazey, WIlson, Bird, SK, Symbol, Biff, Davo, Loaf

Solid win, although the scoreboard made it look closer than it was on the park. First half saw a lot of good chances not put away, or disallowed (including a nice finish by mutton). Their goal was pure luck. Noddy cleared straight into the shins of a striker and the rebound from the top of the box went right into the far corner of the goal. No keeper would have got there, even if we had had one. Clam though had very few nervous moments as the defence pretty much dominated.

One of the light pole went out at half time, presumably to make us all feel at home, but then we smelled shenanigans. The half time score stands under new rules. 1-0 to them. But the lights re-lit and we were off again. Second half goals from PdK, a huge bounce over the on-rushing keeper. Serves them right for playing on a park as uneven as Scooter’s weight chart. Oscar also helped himself to a nice header, at least that is how I have remembered it. Many other goals went begging, as the players with GPS monitors ran their butts off just to rack up stats.

Ref asserted authority like a police cadet ( a lot and probably over the top) but didn’t bother us. Except Bird who now watches the last match. Good game and song, and free fish from Noddy in the car park. Nice night.
