Club Overview

The University of Queensland Football Club Inc (UQFC) is located in the picturesque inner city suburb of St Lucia.

The Club was founded in 1955 and is one of the oldest clubs in Brisbane. Teams have played home games at Oval 3, Sir William Macgregor Drive, University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus for over 50 years. Oval 3 is used exclusively as a competition football field and is open to spectators who are picnicking by the river or lakes and for students who come down to the ground after studying.

The Club is built on a tradition of quality football on the field and a tight-knit social community off the field. It is a club that prides itself on an atmosphere that welcomes both players and supporters and keeps them involved by providing an opportunity to play and watch either high or lower level of soccer in a relaxed environment.

The Club equally welcomes players who have never been associated with the University and those who have previously been UQ students. The Club has a diverse membership and encourages young people to continue to be physically active while they are studying.

Originally established as a students’ football team, the Club has grown from one men’s team to nineteen teams with a strong supporters’ base and expanding community participation competing in several Brisbane football competitions in 2010, including the Football Brisbane Premier and Metro (Men and Women) competition and the social Brisbance Commercial Football League (BCL).

The Club is unique in the Brisbane Football Competition, in that it is strictly an amateur club, and does not pay any players. People play for UQ because they enjoy playing good football and the atmosphere the UQ offers. The Club’s Executive Committee and team management are all volunteers – the Club is a not-for profit organisation, run by players, for players.

The University of Queensland Football Club Inc has been incorporated at law since August 1991, with a constitution that establishes the Club:

  1. To promote the sport of soccer at the University of Queensland; and
  2. To participate in the relevant competitions.

UQFC is independent of The University of Queensland but utilises the fields and resources located at the University’s St Lucia Campus.

On 8 June 2010, the Club achieved a long-held goal and officially changed its name from ‘University of Queensland Soccer Club Incorporated’ (UQSC) to ‘The University of Queensland Football Club Inc’ (UQFC).
